1953 Proof Farthing NGC PF65 Red Cameo Freemans 662a
Elizabeth ii (1952-2022), Young laureate portrait of Queen Elizabeth II right, legend around.
The reverse, Eurasian wren left (Troglodytes troglodytes), date above and denomination below (from the Greek 'troglodytes' meaning cave-dweller).
Translation of obverse legend, Elizabeth II by the Grace of God Queen of all the Britains Defender of the Faith.
Although 40,000 sets were produced for the 1953 Coronation, the majority include the more common proof farthing. However, a small percentage feature the variety described by Freeman as Obverse 2 and Reverse A (“+” to space, “i” to space), assigned catalogue number Freeman 662a. This example is one of those rare pieces. It is highly sought after by collectors and exceptionally scarce in such a superior grade.
This example is FDC graded and certified by NGC as PF65 Red Cameo
